The numbers establish the scale
The Lexus TZ is a dedicated three-row battery-electric SUV built around what the company calls a “Driving Lounge”. Prototype dimensions of 5,100 mm in length, 1,990 mm in width and a 3,050 mm wheelbase place it firmly in the large-SUV class. The stated 2,630 kg weight underlines the engineering challenge: create meaningful passenger space and range without allowing mass to dominate the experience.
A 95.82 kWh battery supplies front and rear motors for all-wheel drive and a preliminary maximum system output of 300 kW, equivalent to about 408 PS. Lexus quotes 0-100 km/h in 5.4 seconds. That is brisk for a three-row vehicle of this size, although acceleration is only one part of the brief.
Range, charging and packaging
The European development target is 530 km on the WLTP cycle with 20-inch wheels. Other preliminary figures include 300 miles for North America, 620 km under Japan’s WLTC procedure and 640 km under China’s CLTC cycle. The spread is a useful reminder that range numbers from different test regimes should never be compared as if they were produced by one method.
Lexus estimates approximately 35 minutes for a 10-80 per cent charge on a 150 kW supply under specified temperature conditions. The announced charging hardware supports regional standards including NACS, CCS, CHAdeMO and GB/T, with AC capability varying by market.
Cargo capacity is listed at 290 litres with all three rows raised and up to 2,017 litres with the second and third rows folded, measured by the VDA method. European towing capacity is provisionally 1,500 kg. Those are the figures that make the TZ more than a luxury shuttle: they determine whether the third row, luggage space and long-distance role can coexist.

The TZ’s most interesting idea is not raw output but the attempt to make a very large electric SUV feel less cumbersome. Dynamic rear steering can reduce the quoted turning radius to 5.4 metres, while a rear-comfort mode changes the vehicle’s behaviour to prioritise passengers. Sustainable materials, including forged bamboo and recycled aluminium, give the interior programme a technical as well as decorative role.
Every major performance figure is still described as preliminary and can vary by region or configuration. The TZ therefore belongs on a watchlist rather than in a final buying comparison. Its production specification, price, charging curve and actual third-row comfort will decide whether the strong prototype numbers translate into a convincing family vehicle.
